Eighteen days had passed in the icy land of Antarctica, arriving at the airport according to the schedule have seemed to be the finest warm homecoming. After nearly three weeks staying at the bottom of the world, four members of the Antarctica expedition had returned home to a hero's reception. This is just an incredible emotional event that sets a historical record.
A hero's welcome party was arranged when the arrival day of Antarctica's scientific expedition finally came after the terrible weather condition restricted them for about 10 more days. Immediate relatives and acquaintance sat in black plastic airport chairs peep in at the large windows on the runway and glancing at their watches about an hour earlier as the plane was about to land. Down the hallway, there were 25 students gathered with teachers and parents, nibbling turkey sandwiches and were about to pamper their teacher with hugs.
In order to surprise them, welcome troops brought along balloons with a heart shape, lots of roses and of course, a streamer as a sign with images of penguins on it. The four team members brought two bags of meteorites which will later be photographed, cut open and tested and tales of a mission accomplished. The expedition also compromised two astronauts who worked at NASA before, a scientist from NASA and a Chicago resident who contributed outstandingly in funding part of the expedition. The quest directed the group to the Patriot Hills of Antarctica, South Pole and Thiel Mountains not so high as the Rockies, but just as attractive.
Upon reaching the States, one team member had something to complain about the technology they had brought along. The satellite phones just aren't good. A constant reminder of what they could not have with them was what these were. Surely he will be continuing his prior occupation n a populated continent as a professor of astronomy and geology.
This kind of adventure in an unfamiliar territory was not the first one for these people. In Turkey last summer from the coast of the Black Sea was where the two and their scientific team viewed the solar eclipse. Their unanticipated stay in the Antarctic was somewhat similar to what they experienced when they were over there. What they went for was the eclipse but in the end they stayed for something else which was a massive earthquake. Being 200 miles away from its epicenter when the earthquake struck caused the two to only be jolted by a magnitude of 5.5.
Camaraderie on the trip was what he considered to be the best part of the trip and he also said that there was less stress with images of blue fields and snow covered scenery. For the team which had a retired NASA scientist it was somewhat an exclusive club. Actually they were very down to earth, people you could easily converse with. All harmless fun was what they preferred. Cross country skiing, snowmobiling, talking, and reading were their usual activities even during their unanticipated stay in the Antarctic.
Completing the outfit a 24 year old member shared with reporters and staff members for the trip which consisted of boots, heavy gloves, and goggles was an energetic smile. For her arrival home, she donned a sweatshirt, jeans and sneakers for the first time in weeks and the same cheerful smile. She was an avid fan of space science and this made her a participant in the Mars like continent trip. For the students, it was a rare learning experience. It is possible to learn as things are tied in. Having an explorer for a teacher means that kids live science and history.
Back home, the students conduct experiments no temperature, rocks, and gravity and that is what she did on the trip. Used to transmit the information to 11 classrooms were satellite phone and email as well. It was pretty fun listening to what kind of answers she got and what we got. Much variety was to blame for why the answers were funny. What she was able to teach the students was that temperatures that can go well below zero plus a snowy desert can change results easily.
