Ten percent of notebooks using touch screens

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Notebooks are tapping 10-inch and larger capacitive touch screen displays at a rapid and expanding pace, despite the market difficulties of Microsoft’s Windows 8, said one market watcher.

In the first quarter of 2013, 4.57 million notebooks shipped with capacitive touch screens, up 51.8 percent from the previous quarter. That’s about ten percent of the total 46 million notebooks sold in the period, said Displaybank, a division of IHS

“Touch-screen notebooks should hold at least 10 percent of the total laptop shipments,” the company said in a new report on the sector. “In particular, brands from the greater China region, including Lenovo, Acer and Asus, have set higher targets of achieving more than 20 percent [adoption],” the report said.
